Doctor Ambroise Liébault
Inventor of psychotherapy

We are then in 1823. After a childhood without history,
it is intended for higher studies and will make its complete curriculum vitae of medicine
to the great faculty nearest at the time, i.e. in Strasbourg.
Immediately afterwards, it returns to the native Land and launches out in an installation as customers,
but in rural zone, faithful in that to its origins within the Lorraine soil.
It is in Bridge-Saint-Vincent, very close to Nancy by consequent, which it exerts during ten years.

The private clinic of Doctor Liébault in Nancy (Collection D. Regional Conservatory Morque/of the Image)
Very quickly subjugated in his readings by the problem of the hypnotism,
about which one spoke much at this time,
this doctor of countryside initiates himself with the practice of the “hypnotic passes”, since 1848 in fact.
A posteriori, we know that this demon any more will not leave it,
at the point besides which it takes again its studies for better assimilating this all that is said and is done on this subject.
It does not hesitate “to be made the hand” and to acquire experiment and control of the subject,
to very propose go with its customers to look after free those of its patients who agree
(by tacit moral contract to some extent) to lend themselves to magnetic practices.
The adventure, because it is one truly, succeeds for it, being spread out over a lapse of time four years.
It is sufficiently convincing and rich person of promises to the eyes of Ambroise Liébeault
so that it finally decides to transport his cabinet to Nancy where it settles and opens a polyclinic
in which it can give free course to his instinct and its gift.
